The Wepler brasserie celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1992. Spanning more than a century, the Wepler can now be considered an important place due to the fact that it bears witness to a district’s history – the district of cabarets, artists, and this typically parisien bohemia.
From a simple public house in the 19th century, it then became a café restaurant with a billiard room, and later on a large café, putting on shows and tea dances.
The Wepler was the daily meeting place of well-known figures who left their mark on 20th century art: from Picasso and Utrillo to Modigliani; from Apollinaire and Henry Miller to Truffaut or Chabrol... Throughout the years, the Wepler has evolved, transformed and modernised itself, all the while keeping hold of its strong characteristic identity.
